Volunteering in Guatemala

After a long transatlantic flight, I am slowly recovering from the jet lag. On the flight from Mexico City to Guate, I was positively surprised as I was suddenly given a seat in business class even though I only had an economy ticket. One thing that struck me was that on the way from the airport to our house, our driver ignored all red lights, besides there were almost no people in the streets at around midnight on a Saturday night on one of the major avenues (the 7th) of a capital city.

My volunteering placement in Guatemala City started today. It is a good opportunity to help people and develop new skills. The other volunteers at our base are from the United States and Canada. My Spanish is coming back after months with little practice.

Frankfurt Airport

Tonight I am at Frankfurt airport coming back from a business trip in the South, waiting for the plane to Bremen. Tomorrow morning I will leave early to fly to Guatemala where I will do some volunteering work for two or three weeks. The first leg of my journey will be a flight to Frankfurt. Slowly becoming a regular there.

This blog will provide updates of my journey in Latin America. Stay tuned.

Rhetoric

Once again, my week-end was dedicated to further education, learning new skills that are useful in both my career and my personal life. The course this Saturday and Sunday was about Rhetoric and Presentation Skills at the local Open University (VHS Bremen). It was really motivating and gave me insights in the way to convince people during presentations.
